After the tragic events of 9/11, the western world declared war on terror, promising to ‘make the world a safer place’. Today, 15 years on, the UK faces a level of threat not seen in over 40 years.
As the world changes, terrorism is changing with it and authorities everywhere are constantly playing catch-up. Between armed forces fighting in the Middle East and security forces trying to prevent attacks on our doorstep, the threats to peace seem increasingly ubiquitous and abstract. There is also the added factor of political rhetoric – are politicians such as Donald Trump and Marine Le Pen, with their fierce anti-Islamic stance, becoming unwitting allies of ISIS?
