The Partition of India happened 75 years ago, and is the biggest mass migration of people in modern history. The devastating impact this tumultuous moment in time had on so many families can still be felt to this day.  

Author Kavita Puri collected and shared the stories of people in Britain who experienced the partition first-hand in her book, Partition Voices: Untold British Stories

We’re delighted to welcome Kavita to this year’s festival, as she shares a selection of these eyewitness accounts, exploring the aftermath of this historic event and the difficult truths at its centre.

Kavita Puri is an award-winning journalist and broadcaster. She devised, wrote and presented Partition Voices for BBC Radio 4 which won the Royal Historical Radio and Public History prizes. She wrote the acclaimed book Partition Voices: Untold British Stories which is currently being adapted for the Donmar Warehouse in a co-production with Tara Theatre. She also presents Three Pounds in My Pocket on Radio 4 and The Inquiry.
