One of the festival’s most mesmerising annual events, this year’s Sufiana Kalam will be performed by the hypnotic Nadeem Abbas, who brings his soulful and uplifting voice to a transcendent evening of sufi music, celebrating the historic traditions of iconic poets from Baba Farid to Bulleh Shah.

Oral transmission of the glorious sufi poems have been a part of South Asian culture for centuries and the form has had a great influence on the idiom and proverbs of Punjabi language. In the magnificent setting of the Alhambra Theatre, Bradford Literature Festival brings this music to you in its original form, with the chiming melodies and flowing rhythms perfectly complemented by Nadeem Abbas’ powerful voice.
