Hakeem Atabek Shukurov an-Nasafi

Shaykh Hakeem Atabek Shukurov an-Nasafi is a distinguished Islamic scholar and herbalist with over 30 years of experience in Islamic and Greek Herbal Medicine. He holds a direct chain of knowledge (isnad) tracing back to the famed physician and philosopher Ibn Sina (Avicenna). Fluent in over eight languages, he has studied and practiced in more than five countries.

Born in Uzbekistan during the USSR era, he began his religious education at the age of ten, continuing the heritage of a region known for great scholars such as Imam Al-Bukhari, At-Tirmidhi, and Imam Abu Mansur Al-Maturidi. He completed his foundational studies in Uzbekistan by age 21, then pursued advanced Islamic education in Damascus and at Al-Azhar University in Egypt, studying under renowned scholars including Sh. Saeed Ramadan al-Buti and Sh. Abdul Fattah Bizm.

In 2006, Shaykh Atabek moved to the UK to promote traditional Islamic knowledge and herbal medicine. He is a frequent presence on Sky TV, with shows like “Ask the Alim” and “Avicenna’s Garden”. In 2012, he launched a structured 3-year herbal medicine training programme using classical texts. His graduates now successfully practice in clinics across the UK. He is also the founder of the Afiya Institute and Academy, promoting traditional Islamic education in Europe, and is affiliated with the Deen Institute, focused on Islamic apologetics and dawah.
