Hannah Spencer – MP for Gorton and Denton

Hannah Spencer is the Green Party MP for Gorton and Denton, elected in February 2026 in a historic by-election — the first parliamentary by-election won by the Green Party, and the party’s first MP in the north of England.

Born in Bolton in 1991, Spencer left school at 16 and built a career as a plumber, gas engineer, and plasterer, running her own business for over a decade. She entered politics in 2022, motivated by growing inequality and her opposition to Greyhound racing. Hannah was elected to Trafford Council in 2023, later becoming Green Party group leader.

Known as “Hannah the Plumber”, Spencer campaigned on cost-of-living, public services, climate action, and championing the north — defeating both Labour and Reform UK with 40.7% of the vote. She has since spoke passionately about tackling fuel poverty, a culture of accountability in Westminster, and the importance of hard work.
