We’ve gathered some of our most anticipated ‘ones to watch’ in 2024 to share with you.

From book releases and debut authors to new additions in Bradford’s city centre, take a look at everything we’re looking forward to and add some exciting additions to your reading list for the year.

New additions to your bookshelf:

Hidden Fires – Sairish Hussain 

Hidden Fires is a powerful story of grief and loss, the power of family ties, and the long arm of history. Bradford-born author, Sairish Hussain, is the Costa Prize-shortlisted author of The Family Tree and a Women’s Prize x Good Housekeeping Futures Finalist.

Hussain’s latest novel will be arriving on our bookshelves soon as it’s already available to buy! 

Come and Get It – Kiley Reid

Reid’s debut novel, Such A Fun Age, was a bestselling sensation and we can’t wait to read Come and Get It, which is released on 30 January 2024.

The Seven Wonders of the Ancient World – Bettany Hughes

Their names still echo down the ages: the Hanging Gardens of Babylon. The Colossus at Rhodes. The Lighthouse of Alexandria. The statue of Zeus at Olympia. The temple of Artemis. The mausoleum of Halicarnassus. 

Historian Bettany Hughes takes us on a journey through the incredible ancient wonders of the world and the fascinating stories they hold. The Seven Wonders of the Ancient World is released on 18 January 2024. 

Empireworld (How British Imperialism Has Shaped the Globe) – Sathnam Sanghera 

In his ground-breaking new book, award-winning author and journalist Sathnam Sanghera traces the legacies of British empire around the world. Sanghera explores the legacies of the British empire, “from the creation of tea plantations across the globe, to environmental destruction, conservation, and the imperial connotations of Royal tours.”

Have a Little Faith – The Reverend Kate Bottley 

The Reverend Kate Bottley shares a wonderful collection of life lessons on love, death, confidence, conflict, loneliness, with lots of laughs along the way. Grab a cuppa and dive in to Have a Little Faith, available from 28 March 2024.

Vengeance: The Khan 2 – Saima Mir 

Brilliant Bradford-born author, Saima Mir, returns this year with Vengeance: The Khan 2, the sequel to her bestselling novel The Khan! Vengeance is available to buy from 6 June 2024.

Amuk – Khairani Barokka 

Amuk is the third poetry collection from writer, poet and artist Khairani Barokka. The Midnight Feast – Lucy Foley

Sunday Times bestselling author Lucy Foley returns with her latest thrilling murder mysterywe will be on the edge of our seats with this one! The Midnight Feast is available from 6 June 2024. 

Muslim Women and Misogyny: Myths and Misunderstandings – Samia Rahman 

Based on interviews with men and women from Islamic communities, Rahman asks the question “What is it really like to be a Muslim in today’s Britain?”.

Untangling issues such as Muslim feminism, representation, toxic masculinity, marriage and sexuality, Rahman takes on “a courageous exploration of Islamophobia, patriarchy and identity”. Pick up Muslim Women and Misogyny: Myths and Misunderstandings from 27 June 2024. 

The Night Alphabet – Joelle Taylor 

A woman walks into a tattoo parlour. But this is no ordinary woman, and this is Hackney in 2233. 

We’re excited to read Taylor’s debut novel, The Night Alphabet, which tells the story of Jones, a woman whose tattoos each tell a unique story. As each tale is told we journey closer to Jones’ truth. Pick up Taylor’s debut from 16 February 2024. 

The Art of Peace – Sir David Khalili 

In 1967, Sir David Khalili finished his military service in Iran and travelled to study in the United States with $750 – his remaining royalties from a book he wrote when he was just 14. Published late 2023, we think The Art of Peace will only rise in popularity this year and is definitely one to add to your 2024 reading list! 

My Friends – Hisham Matar 

From Hisham Matar, the Booker-shortlisted, Pulitzer prize-winning author of The Return, comes a new novel about three friends living in political exile and the emotional homeland that deep friendships can provide. My Friends is available to buy now!

An African History of Africa, Zeinab Badawi

Bradford Live

Bradford’s newest (or rather, reborn) live music and performance venue is set to launch in Autumn 2024! An iconic art deco landmark built in 1930, Bradford Live was originally known as the Bradford Odeon and was the third largest cine-variety theatre in England. With Thank You For The Music, the ultimate ABBA tribute and Legend – The Music of Bob Marley announced for its first concerts in 2024, we can’t wait to visit and enjoy everything Bradford Live has to offer. 

Darley Street Market

Another fantastic new venue set to open in 2024 is the revamped Darley St Market – a state of the art hub of shopping, socialising and culture right in the heart of Bradford. Expect a wide range of food and drinks, independent traders, pop-up shops and more! 

Wave of Nostalgia 

Wave of Nostalgia, an independent bookshop in Haworth, has just been named as one of the top ten independent bookshops in the UK in a poll carried out by The Times. Praised for its “open celebration of women and the LGBTQ community”, we will definitely be making a visit to Brontë country and browsing Wave of Nostalgia’s bookshelves!
