Terms & Conditions

Introduction

Please read the following terms and conditions carefully. By using this site and by registering to buy tickets via it you will be deemed to have accepted all relevant terms and conditions.

These terms and conditions are divided into 2 parts:

  1. Those relating to Ticket purchases made by you (the “Ticket Purchase Terms”); and
  2. Those relating to your use of this Website (the “Website Terms”)

The expression “terms and conditions” is used to describe the combined provisions of the Ticket Purchase Terms and of the Website Terms.

In these terms and conditions;

“we” and “us” means Culture Squared CIC (registered as a company in England and Wales, number 8848577), whose registered office is at 28a York Place, White Rose House, Leeds, LS1 2EZ. “Event” means the individual event or events advertised on our Website for which Tickets are available. “Tickets” or “Bookings” means rights to admission in the form of unique booking reference codes. “Website” means the website on which we make Tickets available and from which we promote Events. “you” means an individual purchasing tickets using this Website.

If there is any conflict between the Ticket Purchase Terms and the Website Terms then the latter shall prevail.

1. Ticket Purchase Terms

Sale of Tickets
Rights to admission for Events are sold in the form of unique booking reference codes, which are delivered electronically via this Website and in an Acknowledgement Email.

A request by you to purchase Tickets using the booking process on this Website is an offer made subject to these Ticket Purchase Terms. The offer is made when you click the “pay” button on the Basket Page of the Website. Acceptance by us of your offer shall be deemed effective when your debit/credit card details have been cleared and we have confirmed your order.

Making Your Booking
To buy Tickets, you must register and set up an account with us, or log in to an account you have previously set up. When creating your account, you must provide accurate, complete, and up-to-date information. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials and for keeping your contact details current. If your contact details are not updated, we are not responsible for any missed notifications about your booking.

Please see our Privacy Policy for further information about how we use your personal data. You must not use our Website or any services available via it if you do not accept this Privacy Policy and our Terms and Conditions.

You must be over 16 years old to buy Tickets using this Website and must also comply with any age restrictions that apply to the venue or Event (see “Age Restrictions, Concessionary Rates, Right to Admission”).

When you are logged into this Website you may choose the Tickets you wish to purchase and add them to your basket. Please check your purchase carefully before you confirm your purchase and check out by clicking on “pay.” At this stage an offer has been made by you to purchase the Tickets selected.

Once you have offered to purchase the Tickets, then, subject to their availability at advertised prices and checking your debit/credit card details, we will accept your offer and confirm your Booking by displaying your unique booking reference code.

When we accept your offer to buy a Ticket, we will charge your debit/credit card with the face value of the Ticket plus a Booking fee. The face value and Booking fee will be clearly itemised in your basket before you confirm your purchase and check out.

Until your payment is processed and accepted by us, the unique booking reference code will not be valid.

You are advised to check your purchase on receipt of confirmation from us.

Please keep your unique booking reference code in a safe place, as you may be refused entry to the Event without the number. (See “Gaining Admission to the Event.”)

Ethical Ticketing Policy
Our Ethical Ticketing Policy is the cornerstone of BLF’s work; free access for priority communities to most events  and a free-to-access children and young people’s programme.

We are passionate that our festival is always open to everyone, whatever their engagement barriers and we will take each request on a case-by-case basis. However, to ensure this policy has the greatest reach it is important to align it with our ‘priority’ communities and to maintain an effective, accessible database from which we can elicit useful data.

It is for this reason that we have created a category system for our ‘front door’ offer. This also helps us market this offer effectively.

Ethical Tickets
We offer and promote ethical tickets according to individuals in the following categories:

  • Benefits Recipients – anyone who is in receipt of a government-issued benefit and/or lives in social housing.
  • Carers – if you are accompanying a disabled audience member who requires additional support.
  • Disability – anyone in receipt of a disability benefit or other support.
  • Students – anyone who is in full-time education.
  • Senior Citizens – anyone over the age of 65 where the state pension is your sole source of income.
  • Teachers & Educators including wider school staff.

Those booking an Ethical Ticket will be required to tick a box during the booking process which clarifies they have documentation confirming their selected ticket category.

Documents which BLF accepts as a form of identification are:

  • Disability – letter from Disability Support Services, Personal Independence Payment (PIP) letter, appropriate travel/leisure card, or a blue badge.
  • Student – a valid student ID such as an NUS card, or cards issued by schools, colleges, and universities.
  • Senior Citizen – photographic ID which can include a passport, driver’s license, bus pass or other form of recognised identification.
  • State Pension – we appreciate that it may not be possible to prove that a state pension is an individual’s sole source of income, therefore we operate an honesty policy for this ticket concession.
  • Benefits Recipient – a recent letter of any government document (dated within three months) which states that an individual is in receipt of benefits or living in social housing.
  • Teachers & Educators – valid photographic staff ID.
  • Refugee & Asylum Seekers – Immigration Status Document, eVisa or BRP, Home Office decision letter, Certificate of Travel, or Asylum Registration Card (ARC).

Individuals found to be abusing or misusing the Ethical Ticketing Policy may be charged for the value of the tickets booked or refused entry to the event.

Community Access Codes
In addition to our ‘front door’ offer, BLF also works with organisations and networks that support underrepresented and marginalised audiences. These support BLF’s ‘priority’ communities and will be subject to review each year. These are mainly restricted to organisations/networks on our community database. Organisations can apply, via the Website, for a code.

Eligible organisations include:

  • Grassroots groups who meet for regular activities
  • Community centres or service providers
  • Wellbeing or befriending groups who meet for regular activities
  • Community faith-based organisations
  • Arts and cultural organisations
  • Community networking, community action or advocacy organisations

Community Access Codes are given out on a case-by-case basis at the discretion of BLF, and having had a Community Access Code in the past does not guarantee one in the future. Community Access Codes must not be shared outside the organisation.

If tickets booked with a Community Access Code are no longer needed, they must be cancelled ahead of the event. A minimum of 75% of booked tickets must be used, or the organisation may be excluded from future Community Access Codes.

Gaining admission to the Event
The unique booking reference code for each Booking is issued subject to these terms and conditions. We advise that you familiarise yourself with the following terms before attending the Event.

As the person making the Booking, you must attend the Event yourself and must accompany all other persons for whom the Booking is made.

Some Events and Ticket types have age restrictions. While we use reasonable efforts to provide details of any age restrictions, it is your responsibility to find out if there are any age restrictions which apply.

When you arrive at the Event you have booked, you must be able to provide your unique booking reference code, your name, your postcode, and may be asked to show photographic identification.

Only the person in whose name the Booking has been made needs to provide this information. Persons in their party arriving with them do not; though each person will have to provide proof of age or concessionary status where these are required (see “Age Restrictions, Concessionary Rates, Right to Admission”).

You are responsible for making any other person in your party aware of the relevant parts of these terms and conditions.

Venue rules and regulations
Tickets are issued subject to the Rules and Regulations of the Bradford Literature Festival and the venue at which the Event is being held. You and all other Ticket holders in your party must comply with all relevant statutes, safety announcements, and venue regulations whilst attending the Event.

Bradford Literature Festival and venue management accept no responsibility for any personal property taken to an Event.

While we make every effort to ensure all information is accurate and up to date, we cannot be held responsible for any errors.

Refunds
Refunds are available for Purchased Tickets as follows, for any reason:

  • A full refund is available if requested at least 7 days before the Event
  • A 50% refund is available if requested between 72 hours and 7 days before the Event
  • No refunds will be issued less than 72 hours before the Event

Refunds may take up to 14 business days to process.

Refunds are also offered for Purchased Tickets under the following circumstances:
(a) the Event is cancelled by us;
(b) the Event is rescheduled to a new date and you do not wish to retain your Booking;
(c) the Event is ‘significantly changed’ after your Booking is placed.

Definition of a ‘Significantly Changed’ Event
A ‘significantly changed’ Event includes:

  • A change of venue
  • A change of headline speaker or main participant
  • A change to the Event’s published start time of more than 30 minutes

The following are not considered ‘significant changes’:

  • A change to the Event start time of 30 minutes or less
  • A change to supporting speakers
  • A change in the Event running order

Event Cancellation
If the Event is cancelled by us for any reason, we will automatically refund the value of your Ticket. You do not need to notify us.

Rescheduled or ‘Significantly Changed’ Events
If the Event is rescheduled to a new date or is ‘significantly changed’, we will notify you using the email address listed in your account. If your contact details are not updated, we are not responsible for any missed notifications about your booking.

If you wish to request a refund following a reschedule to a new date or a ‘significantly changed’ Event, you must notify us within the following timeframes:

  • If we notify you more than 48 hours before the original published Event start time, you must notify us by 4pm on the working day before the Event.
  • If we notify you within 48 hours of the original published Event start time, you must notify us no later than 1 hour before the new start time of the Event.
  • If we notify you on the day of the Event, you must notify us as soon as possible and no later than 30 minutes before the new start time of the Event.
  • If the original published Event start time is on a Saturday, Sunday, or Bank Holiday Monday, you must notify us by 4pm on the Thursday before the Event.

Refunds may take up to 14 business days to process.

If you do not notify us within the relevant time period, you will be deemed to have accepted the change, and your Booking will remain valid. No refund will be issued.

If you choose to retain your Booking following a reschedule or ‘significantly changed’ Event, you will not be eligible for any refund or compensation.

Limitation of Liability
Our liability in the event of cancellation is strictly limited to the refund of the face value of the ticket. We are not liable for any other expenses, losses, or damages incurred as a result of the cancellation, including but not limited to travel, accommodation, or other associated costs. We are not liable for any indirect, special, incidental, or consequential losses or damages arising out of or in connection with your booking.

Transfer of Tickets
Transfer of Tickets
By using this site to buy Tickets, you agree that:

  • They are for the personal use of you and your party only
  • You will not attempt to transfer them
  • You will not attempt to resell them in any way

We reserve the right to cancel Ticket Bookings which we reasonably suspect to have been made fraudulently or in breach of these terms.

Age Restrictions, Concessionary Rates, Right to Admission
Some Events and Ticket types have age restrictions. We will take reasonable efforts to ensure these are detailed in the Event information. Please read all the information that applies to the Event/Ticket you are booking and bring proof of age if appropriate.

Some Tickets are offered at concessionary rates to eligible persons, for example, students, under-18s. If you buy concessionary Tickets, you must take valid proof that each Ticket holder is eligible for that concession to the Event. If you cannot prove eligibility for each person holding a concessionary Ticket, you may be asked to pay the difference at the door or refused entry completely. If you are refused entry, we cannot refund you.

The right to admission to an Event is reserved by Bradford Literature Festival and the Event venue, who may take health and safety, environmental, and security concerns into account, and may carry out security searches. Entry may be refused or you may be asked to leave for the following reasons:

  • Being under age, or appearing to be underage and failing to provide valid proof of age
  • Declining to be searched
  • Abusive, threatening, or antisocial behaviour
  • Being intoxicated or disruptive
  • Possession of illegal substances
  • Possession of offensive items, including weapons
  • Smoking in no-smoking areas
  • Making unauthorised audio, video or photographic recordings
  • Arriving late where prompt arrival is required
  • Failing to adequately supervise children in your care, or leaving children unattended

Laser pens, mobile phones, animals (except assistance dogs), and Ticket holders’ own food may also be prohibited from the venue.

Availability of Tickets
Some Events and Ticket types have restricted availability or allow a maximum number of Tickets per purchaser. These restrictions are indicated in the Event information or during Booking. If you order Tickets in breach of these restrictions or in excess of the maximum allowed, we reserve the right to cancel your order.

Governing Law and Jurisdiction
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes arising out of or in connection with these terms, or your Ticket purchase, shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
