About the Journalists
Dr Myriam François
Myriam François, is an English journalist, filmmaker and writer. Her work has appeared on the BBC, Channel 4 and Al Jazeera. She is the founder and CEO of production company MPWR productions, which specialises in documentary films which centre on minoritised voices.
Myriam’s award-winning, directorial debut documentary Finding Alaa (BBC/CBC 2023) won the “Special Mention” Award at Doc Fest’23 and “Best Short” at the Independent Shorts Festival. The film has been BAFTA Longlisted as “Best Short Film” 2024 and premiered at Hot Docs and the Nobel Peace Centre in Oslo.
Myriam was nominated as one of only 14 “filmmakers to watch” in 2021 by One World Media.
Professor Paul Rogers
Paul is Emeritus Professor of Peace Studies at Bradford University. He is a biologist by original training, lecturing at Imperial College in plant pathology and working as a senior scientific officer in Uganda and Kenya. He moved to Peace Studies at Bradford University in 1979, working primarily on the changing causes of international conflict, especially in relation to socio-economic divisions and environmental limits to growth. He is international security adviser to Open Democracy, writes a weekly column, and is a frequent broadcaster. His most recent book is The Insecurity Trap, Hawthorn Press, 2024.
About the Chair
Aaqil Ahmed
Professor Aaqil Ahmed is the former Head of Religion and Ethics at both the BBC and Channel 4. He is currently a Media, communications and diversity consultant and a Professor in media. Aaqil is a Non Executive Director of a number of organisations including The Advertising Standards Authority, OFCOM and The Higher Education Funding Council for Wales.
About the Speaker
Daniel Levy
Daniel Levy is a political analyst and President of the U.S./Middle East Project (USMEP). He previously served as MENA Director for the European Council on Foreign Relations and Head of the Middle East Taskforce at the Washington DC New America Foundation.
Levy was a Senior Advisor in the Israeli Prime Minister’s Office and to Justice Minister Yossi Beilin during the Government of Ehud Barak (1999-2001). He was a member of the official Israeli delegation to the Israel/Palestine peace talks at Taba under Barak and at Oslo B under Yitzhak Rabin (1994-95).
Levy briefed the UN Security Council on four occasions in the past five years, the latest of which from February 2025 can be viewed here.
