About the Speakers

Kitty Tait
Kitty Tait is a Glasgow‐based teenage baker‑author who rose from battling depression to create one of England’s most beloved artisanal bakeries. At 14, after being diagnosed with anxiety and depression, she discovered baking as a healing tool. Breadsong is a hybrid memoir‑cookbook that tells her story of recovery and resilience, paired with 80+ recipes like the “Comfort Loaf” (with Marmite) and “Happy Bread” (salted‑caramel).

Al Tait
Al Tait is a British baker and former teacher who co-founded The Orange Bakery in Watlington, Oxfordshire, alongside his daughter, Kitty Tait. What began as a therapeutic project to help Kitty’s mental health blossomed into a flourishing artisan bakery famous for its queues and inventive sourdoughs.
About the Chair

Samia Rahman
Samia Rahman is a writer, scholar and journalist, whose research focuses on Muslim women, patriarchy and structures of power. She is the author of Muslim Women and Misogyny: Myths and Misunderstandings in 2024 and in 2025 wrote the Centre for Media Monitoring’s report on Muslim Women working in UK media. The former director of the Muslim Institute and former deputy editor of the quarterly Critical Muslim, she is studying for a PhD at Goldsmiths, University of London.
