Description
To mark International Women’s Day, Bradford Literature Festival welcomes Naz Shah for the launch of her powerful and deeply personal memoir, Honoured.
Honoured is an unflinching account of resilience, justice and public service, charting Shah’s extraordinary journey from childhood trauma to national political life. Born and raised in Bradford, Shah was sent to Pakistan aged 12 to escape her mother’s violent abuser. After her mother was imprisoned for killing her abuser, Shah, along with her two younger siblings began campaigning tirelessly for her mother’s release, an early sign of the determination and advocacy that would come to define her life.
Now, in Honoured, she tells her story in full for the first time, exploring family, faith, survival and the realities of power, offering a rare and intimate portrait of a woman who has defied expectations at every turn.
Following the event, guests are invited to remain for iftar, marking the breaking of the fast during Ramadan.
