About the Speakers

Samia Rahman
Samia Rahman is a writer, scholar and journalist, whose research focuses on Muslim women, patriarchy and structures of power. She is the author of Muslim Women and Misogyny: Myths and Misunderstandings in 2024 and in 2025 wrote the Centre for Media Monitoring’s report on Muslim Women working in UK media. The former director of the Muslim Institute and former deputy editor of the quarterly Critical Muslim, she is studying for a PhD at Goldsmiths, University of London.

Sabbiyah Pervez
Sabbiyah Pervez is an Investigations Reporter for BBC Yorkshire and Lincolnshire with over 10 years experience in broadcasting. During this time she’s uncovered and exposed several exclusive stories including medical negligence at Bradford Royal Infirmary, the malpractice of witch doctors and more recently a deep dive into domestic homicide reviews. Sabbiyah also has a track record of working with under represented communities across Yorkshire, gaining their trust to amplify their voices. During her time at the BBC, Sabbiyah has also worked for BBC Panorama and is a passionate advocate of responsible and ethical journalism.

Shahed Ezaydi
Shahed Ezaydi is a British Libyan writer, editor, and journalist based in London, known for her work on politics, feminism, and social issues. Ezaydi is currently a staff writer at Stylist Magazine and has contributed to various publications, including Dazed, Glamour, gal-dem, and The New Arab .
Her debut book, The Othered Woman: How White Feminism Harms Muslim Womenexamines how white feminism intersects with Islamophobia, often marginalizing Muslim women’s voices and experiences .

Remona Aly
Remona Aly is a journalist and broadcaster. She writes for The Guardian, is a regular contributor to BBC Radio 2’s Pause for Thought and a presenter on BBC Radio 4’s Something Understood. She is also an editor and podcast host for various platforms.
