Maqāmāt al-Harīrī: Facsimile Manuscript Display

Description

Meaning “The Assemblies”, Maqāmāt al-Harīrī is one of the masterpieces of classical Arabic literature, written by the 12th-century scholar and poet al-Harīrī of Basra, in present-day Iraq.

It follows the adventures of the charismatic trickster Abū Zayd as he journeys through the cities and marketplaces of the medieval Islamic world, from Iraq and Syria to Persia and the Arabian Peninsula, using wit, eloquence, and ingenuity to navigate society.

Renowned for its dazzling rhymed prose and vivid storytelling, the work was later illustrated with some of the most celebrated images in Islamic manuscript art. This facsimile manuscript offers a rare opportunity to encounter a landmark of Arabic literary and artistic heritage.
