Timothy Garton Ash, Sir Richard Lambert

Homelands: A Personal History of Europe

Description

Join renowned historian Timothy Garton Ash as he sheds light on a subject close to his heart and the focus of his latest book, Homelands: A Personal History of Europe. Drawing from the people who lived it, he explores how it slowly recovered and rebuilt amid the ashes of the Second World War – and then faltered.

Garton Ash has spent a lifetime studying Europe and this deeply personal book is full of vivid experiences, from his father’s memories of D-Day and his own surveillance at the hands of the Stasi to interviewing Albanian guerrillas in the mountains of Kosovo and angry teenagers in the poorest quarters of Paris, as well as advising prime ministers, chancellors and presidents.

Meanwhile, the conflict in Ukraine has created a European refugee crisis not seen since the Second World War that has put the continent under the global spotlight.

This is an opportunity to hear from one of our greatest writers on Europe as he explains why the need to protect this great continent has never been more urgent.
