Traditional Ottoman Bookbinding Masterclass

Description

Discover the exquisite art of traditional Ottoman bookbinding in this hands-on masterclass, supported by the Yunus Emre Institute.

Led by Demet Tokbay, a conservator, restorer and traditional parchment maker, the session introduces the materials, techniques and decorative traditions behind centuries of Ottoman manuscript-making. Participants will learn about this rich heritage craft before creating their own hand-bound piece to take home. Based in Norfolk and trained in Türkiye, Demet is one of only two active UK parchment makers practising this critically endangered craft.

Perfect for anyone interested in heritage, Islamic art or mindful making, no experience is needed and all materials are provided.

Please note all tickets purchased for this event also give the ticket holder a complimentary place at the accompanying Traditional Ottoman Bookbinding Talk.
